DNP PROJECT
Neonatal Discharge Readiness Program
The beginning of DNP Project Development I, started difficult for me as a post-master's DNP student. Identifying a project was more difficult than initially expected. After my project topic and project decision, practice sites changed; I have now begun an exciting endeavor to create a Neonatal Discharge Program to increase parental readiness for discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Throughout the semester, assignments focus on the final creation of a draft project proposal. Next semester I will have the opportunity to defend my project proposal, and NRSG 715 has allowed me to begin to prepare for the defense. My project proposal draft is attached to the link below. NRSG 715D has prepared me toward obtaining my DNP through the following DNP Essentials.
Essential I: Scientific Underpinnings for Practice- Essential I was met by initiating processes that promote positive change in neonates' health status.
Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Improvement and Systems Thinking- Essential II was met by evaluating current needs for the neonatal population and communication skills to lead a quality improvement project.
Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice- Clinical Scholarship was met this semester by a literature review of current evidence on neonatal discharges and parental readiness for discharge. Along with the literature review, the design of quality improvement methods for improving practice also guides clinical scholarship.
Essential VI: Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient and Population Health Outcomes- Essential VI was met by collaborating with medical staff and the nursing department to organize a discharge program for the clinical site and conduct intradisciplinary meetings via Zoom throughout the semester.
